Kevin Kelly - The Next 5000 Days of The One
In the video posted below, Kevin Kelly, co-founder of Wired, hits us with an interesting statistic - the World Wide Web is only 5,000 days old. Just think of all the online developments and advances that have infiltrated and reformed nearly every aspect of our lives. Quick list: online banking, blogging, video sharing, instantaneous global news, social networking - people willfully sharing their private moments with the world, and on and on.
Kelly provides the technical specifications of the web, all of it. Strangely enough, its total memory and processing power is roughly equivalent to a single human brain. However, unlike your brain, computing power is doubling every 18 months. The point at which computing power will surpass human mental capacity is known as The Singularity.
Kelly also notes that the web is the first machine ever built by humanity that hasn’t broken down, not once.
